Teaching the Agent about your product

The website scan, the four fields, and what to do when a site cannot be read.

On first use the Agent offers to read your website and learn what you sell and who you sell to. Everything it infers is shown to you before it saves, and you can edit or replace any of it.

The scan

  1. Enter your domain, for example yourcompany.com, and continue.
  2. Wait about fifteen seconds while the site is read.
  3. Review the four fields it filled in.
  4. Save, or skip and fill them in by hand.

The four fields

  • What you sell - the product and the result a buyer gets.
  • Who you sell to - roles, company types and markets worth targeting.
  • Proof points - real numbers, names and facts worth citing.
  • Voice - a few adjectives, for example direct, technical, friendly.

These four are what make suggestions specific. Without them the Agent gives generic advice; with them it proposes segments that match your actual buyer.

When the scan fails

Enter your company website URL.

That doesn't look like a public website URL.

Give a public domain, not an internal or staging URL, and without a path.

Couldn't reach that website - check the URL and try again.

The site did not respond. Check the domain spelling, and confirm it loads in a private browser window.

That page didn't have enough readable text to learn from.

Couldn't auto-read that site - fill the fields in manually.

Some sites render entirely through JavaScript, or hide everything behind a login. Nothing is wrong with your site as a site, it simply has no readable text at that URL. Point the scan at a content-heavy page such as your product or about page, or fill the four fields by hand. Two sentences per field is plenty, and hand-written fields are usually sharper than inferred ones.

Changing it later

The context can be edited at any time from the Agent screen. If you launch a second product or move upmarket, update 'who you sell to' first, because that is the field that changes which segments get proposed.

Keep at least one target industry or company keyword.

The targeting cannot be emptied completely, because a suggestion engine with no target has nothing to suggest.
