Launch, pause, resume and stop a campaign

Published by Argorant

What each button does, and what happens to people who are still in the sequence.

A campaign sends only after you launch it, and you can pause, resume or stop it at any time. The buttons sit at the top right of the campaign page and change with the campaign's status. You can also pause, resume, stop and delete from Campaigns, for one campaign or many at once.

The buttons by status

Launch

  1. Check the emails with View preview on the Emails tab, and send yourself a test.
  2. Check the timezone, sending hours and daily limit on the Settings tab.
  3. Click Launch. You see Campaign is sending. and the status turns to Sending.

The first emails go out in the next sending window, or on the Planned start date if you set one. Launching on a Friday evening with weekends skipped means the first emails go out on Monday morning.

If Launch is grey, something is missing. The line under the campaign name says what, for example Before launch, add a sender and leads., and each part is a link to the tab where you fix it. See Why the Launch button is blocked.

Pause and resume

Pause stops new emails at once. Everyone keeps their place in the sequence, and replies still come in to the Unibox. You see Campaign paused.

Resume picks up where it stopped, in the next sending window. People whose next email was due during the pause get it then, at the normal pace of the campaign. If bounce protection is on, it starts counting again from zero.

Stop

Stop ends the campaign for good. Argorant asks first:

Stop this campaign? Leads still in the sequence will not receive further emails.

After you confirm, the status turns to Completed and you see Campaign stopped. A stopped campaign cannot be started again. Its numbers stay in Analytics, and replies still arrive in the Unibox. To write to the same people again, start a new campaign.

Delete

You delete campaigns from the list in Campaigns: open the row menu (the three dots) and choose Delete, or tick several and use Delete in the bar at the bottom. A sending campaign cannot be deleted. Stop or pause it first.

Delete "Demo: UK freight managers"? Its emails, leads and results are removed. This cannot be undone.

Replies that already arrived stay in your Unibox.

Good to know

  • When your plan's campaign emails for the month are used up, sending pauses by itself and the campaign page says so. It continues on the reset date or right after an upgrade.
  • If all mailboxes of a campaign are new and still in their first rest period, Launch waits until they are ready and tells you how long.
  • Pausing or stopping never deletes leads, emails or numbers.
